Week 9

This week in the pre-school room we have been celebrating bonfire night by singing songs and exploring sparkly playdough with star cutters and pipe cleaners.

In the art area we have been printing with apples to make art work to represent remembrance day and painting paper cake cases red to make a poppy wreath.

Our rhyme of the week was ‘It’s bonfire night’.

Week 8

This week in pre-school we have continued with our theme ‘Let’s celebrate Autumn’ by celebrating Diwali. We have been tasting poppadoms and vegetable samosas and really enjoyed a diwali workshop with Jee from Bhangra Fitness. She taught us some exciting dance moves and we listened to music and looked at special diwali artefacts.

Our rhyme of the week was ‘It’s Diwali’.

Week 7

In pre-school this week

We have been making hedgehogs at the playdough table, practising our skills of balling the playdough and counting out two eyes to stick on the body.

Week 6

Our new theme in the pre-school room this week is ‘Let’s Celebrate Autumn’.

We have been exploring the autumn objects the children collected on their walks and using some of them to make autumn collages inspired by ‘Andy Goldsworthy’.

Our role play area has been turned into an Indian Restaurant and the children have been enjoying order and serving food to the customers and operating the till to take payments.

Our rhymes of the week have been ‘Dingle Dangle Scarecrow’ and ‘I can See Apples’.

Week 5

This week in pre-school the children have been celebrating black history month.

In the writing area, we have been learning about Garrett Augustus Morgan, the inventor of the traffic light by drawing our own circle shapes, and exploring the colours red, amber and green.

In the construction area we have been celebrating Mae Jemison, the astronaut, by learning about space rockets and the moon, and making our own rockets.

Our nursery rhymes of the week were ‘Wind the Bobbin Up’ and ‘Incy Wincy Spider’.

Week 4

This week in pre-school the children have been learning about our feelings. We have been reading the story ‘The Colour Monster’ and making faces to match our feelings.

In the art area we have been exploring colour mixing. We have been learning that red and yellow make orange, blue and red make purple and yellow and blue make green. The children have really enjoyed mixing paint with their hands, describing how it feels and using their fingers to make marks.

Our rhyme of the week was ‘Miss Polly Had A Dolly’

Week 3

This week in pre-school the children have been learning more about the ‘Chinese Festival of the Harvest Moon’ by using circular cutters to make moons in the sparkly white playdough.

In the maths area we have been building towers. How many blocks?

We have also been threading with circular beads and counting how many we have put on a thread.

In the exploration area we have been exploring treasure baskets with a range of natural autumn materials.

Our rhyme of the week was ‘Row, row, row your boat’.
